Volunteer Social Media Assistant
Role Purpose:
Working with our Digital Media & Communications Officer to support The Rowntree Society’s online presence by helping to create engaging content across social media platforms, raising awareness of the Rowntree legacy and current projects.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist in planning and creating posts for platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and, Facebook. Taking raw photos and videos where necessary.
• Research and suggest content ideas linked to Rowntree history, anniversaries, and relevant current events
• Keep up to date with social media trends and recommend ways to improve engagement
• Help maintain a content calendar and organise digital assets (e.g. photos, quotes, archive materials)
Skills and behaviours needed for the role:
Skills and Experience (desirable but not essential):
• Interest in history, heritage, or social justice
• Experience using social media for an organisation, cause, or project
• Strong written communication and visual storytelling skills
• Confidence with tools like Canva (or willingness to learn)
• Attention to detail and an eye for design
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively

Volunteer Joseph Rowntree Centenary Event Assistant
About the Role
The Rowntree Society is currently recruiting Event Volunteers to join the
volunteer team to help with the setting up, closing down and the general
delivery of its centenary year events.
The events which The Rowntree Society is delivering over the Centenary year
include talks and community outreach sessions, which are being held within
York and surrounding areas.
The main purpose of the Event Volunteer role is to be present at the event
which you are volunteering at, and to help The Rowntree Society team with
anything which needs doing during the delivery of the event. This could include
welcoming visitors, checking tickets upon guest arrival, or running the
merchandise stall.
This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in York’s Quaker Rowntree
heritage who is looking to grow their local connections, and who enjoys
involvement in events and public-facing roles.
Main Tasks
– Assist the Community and Events Organiser with the set-up, delivery and
clearing up of a Rowntree Society event
– Provide a friendly welcome to the public visiting the event
– Answer any practical queries from the public which arise during the
event
Skills and behaviours needed for the role:
– No specific knowledge or experience is necessary, just an enthusiasm to
be involved in the events being run by The Rowntree Society
– An interest in the Rowntree history and continuing legacy
– A willingness to work in a public-facing / Front of House role
Volunteer Joseph Rowntree Centenary Ambassador
About the Role
The Rowntree Society is currently recruiting Ambassador Volunteers to join the
volunteer team to help with sharing social media posts as well as news of the
Rowntree Centenary events with their networks.
The events which The Rowntree Society is delivering over the Centenary year
include talks and community outreach sessions which are being held within
York and surrounding areas.
The main purpose of the Ambassador Volunteer role is to stay up-to-date with
the Society’s social media posts, as well as the events which the Society is
holding over 2025, and to share this information with the volunteer’s own
network.
This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in York’s Quaker Rowntree
heritage who is looking to grow their local connections, marketing experience,
and who enjoys involvement in social media and communications.
Skills and behaviours needed for the role:
– Communicate with the Community and Events Organiser to stay up-to-
date with the Centenary year events
– Stay connected with The Rowntree Society social media and share any
new posts with own network
– Share news of any Centenary year events with own network
– To actively look for people and groups to share Centenary Year content
with
Knowledge and Experience Required
